European GP: new circuit

If you’re not watching practice today, then get yourself familiar with the Valencia street circuit before quali starts tomorrow via this handy YouTube video. Annoyingly it doesn’t have sound, but it at least lets you see what the track’s like:

After you’ve watched it, let us know what you think. We’re very much looking forward to it, and there’s sure to be at least one safety car period, which could throw up an unusual result or two. And those walls look pretty unforgiving huh?

Good times.

I love the “over the bridge” section with a sharp turn to the right afterwards… looks promising!

can’t wait to see what singaphore has to offer at night!

Looks ever so slightly enormous. 25 corners?!

Like Monaco? This circuit will have an average speed close to 200 km/h, while Monaco has about 90 km/h avg speed. Quite a difference…

One safety car instance! That’s being optimistic. Have you guys seen the dust and sand on the track, its as if the cousins of big-eye-brow-man thought lets make a track and then ensure that anyone who drives on it dies! Having said that, I do like street circuits and Singapore should be a blast.

hmm should be very entertaing to watch that said there is hardly any run off room nor and real overtaking moves, looking foward to sunday thou

Boring! It’s too enclosed – every time someone spins they’ll wreck their car. It’ll be a race full of safety car interruptions with he who drives most gingerly winning.

the first lap of this race should be fantastic
especially the second corner
not that i wish misfortune on any driver…….ofcourse not
just, in the last few races the only incidents have been technical. nothing exciting

Too many people thinks that this track is like Monaco. nah! Just opposite!

No sand areas? so you can bash out of track and return like nothing would have happend? luckily there is wall…

I’m waiting Singapore more than Valencia though…

I’m in work at the moment, and can’t watch the vid. But I’ve seen the pictures and heard the results of practice. And this was in daylight! Imagine what it’s gonna be like under cover of darkness! Can’t wait to see this in the next F1 game. Speaking of the next F1 game, has anybody heard any news about it. The last I heard, Codemasters (Race Driver:Grid) have bought the license and look to have the game out next year.

Forumale games are great! Gives you a reason to stay in home from work dye headache!

I watched both sessions today and it was great to see midfield drivers such as Seb Vettel and Button challenging the top 4 drivers. Should prove to be an interesting race.

Codemasters is going to ruin the next F1-game, they are going to make it arcade-style… And i hate arcade games. Simulation FTW.

Has anyone else noticed that the kerbs and grandstands are Renault colors?

Yes, the page is in Spanish (it’s a Peruvian newspaper), but clic on the “play” button and you’ll hear the commentary in English.

I’m also at work, and can’t see your video, but I can watch the one on “El Comercio”. My favourite is the crossroads where two different bends were placed, getting close to each other (one of them is the last one entering the finish-line straight). I hope there’s a good camera there to show the cars going on different directions.

The bends I am talking about are at-00:40 and -00:07.

i’m not impressed by it. its a failed attempt at a monaco, the only overtaking will be if cars run wide because of the dusty, slippery track. for a street circuit it is far more high speed, but has no charachter about it and i still think overtaking manouvers will be few and far between :(

I no this is off topic, but i dont know where to post it:

Roflmao

Good another street circuit with walls at the side for death and gore so should be a good watch. This track is exactly what massa needs, after all the stuff people have been saying about him hopefully he wont be unlucky like he was in monaco didnt see the practise but qualifying should be fun. I would immediatly start to say that honda will finish last in this race assuming they dont crash/break down/ die on the walls

I agree with medi. The circuit looks fairly unremarkable. The bridge reminds of the one at Wembley. If its to be run at night, this must surely require a humongous amount of power to floodlight over 3 miles of circuit?!! Wasn’t Spain recently suggesting lower speed limits on motorways and A roads in order to reduce the nation’s fuel consumption and dependence on oil imports? It seems quite hypocritical to stage a night race just for the spectacle of it, but I can well understand given the ordinariness of the circuit in daytime ;).

Also, seems there’s a lot of corners. Maybe some of the drivers will have trouble remembering them all?!! Let’s hope Hamilton can do the business once more. By the way, aren’t here a lot of ING adverts on here featuring Fine’n’dandy Alone so aka monobrow. Is this irony?

“A failed attempt at Monaco”??? Have you ever watched the Monaco GP? There is no way you could reproduce that track for modern F1. Monaco exists today purely because of it’s history and uniqueness. I love the Valencia circuit already.

singapore is a night race, not valencia.

the idea is so that you european people dont have to wake up early to watch our races, so instead us aussies have to watch local races at night.

I’ve never liked street circuits, one step out of line, and you’re toast!! LOL @ whoever said go off track and come back… you’d be lucky to return anywhere, those arrester beds are there for a reason!
