Singapore GP: pit blunder

Wait for the onboard view and watch that again… we’d have all so gone on that green light! Then when it flicks back to red, it’s just too late and Massa’s out of there.

AAAh the delicious irony – they are so busy fiddling about with everyone else’s business, they didnt have time to sort out their own STOP / GO routine.

They will probably get their lawyers to have some sort of retrospective penalty for everyone else so that they come first.

I am sorry for Massa as he deserved a better opportunity in that race .

Certainly not Massa’s fault unlike Kimi recently where he went while the lights were still red. With at least 5 people involved with pressing buttons to say they’re finished it increases the opportunity for something to go wrong. At least the lollipop system relies on one person to say go. Massa has not had much luck this season Spa aside.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has told Gazzetta dello Sport:

“When we race on tracks which should be used for the circus, anything can happen. This is humiliating for F1 and it is an aspect I want to talk about with the other teams in the next few weeks.”

    Erm, sore loser?

I know Massa isn’t to blame for leaving the pits to early, that entirely the fault of the dodgy system Ferrari uses… but just look at how he nearly rammed Sutil (yet again) almost into teh pitwall which is full of technicians… surely that’s more life treathing then refueling when the pits it closed… yet they again get a lighter punishment…

just unbelievable, and another very bad mark for F1…

oh one final thing; to those who say a lollypopman is much better, look at Couldhard’s final pitstop… almost the exact same thing happened… but yes lollypop men have proven their use over all the years, and it’s nice to see that teams are trying out new things, but the damn thing should have been trown out after the first incident already :/

What an utter cock-up by Ferrari. Between Raikkonen turning into Krash-’em-up Kimi, a light system that doesn’t work, and a bad habit of releasing Massa into the path of poor Sutil (that’s twice now, for you playing the home game), they certainly are not looking like a championship team.

They need to change the rig to only go green when the refuelling rig is disconnected, that way it can’t possibly let the driver go with it attached.

Shame there wasnt a fire really, the system would have been immediately banned.

I agree with de Montezemolo. The track was shoddy. It was bumpy, it started falling to bits halfway through and the whole race had all the dull grey concrete ambience of a Soviet amusement park. Compare Singapore to the track at Spa, or the old Hockenheim circuit, and you’ll see what I mean. Let’s race on tracks, not in shopping centre car parks.

Swas this during the race and to be honest, Massa deserved no penalty whatsoever as he did nothing wrong. He merely went when the light told him too.

Looked to me as if the fuel rig man hits the button by accident or is going to hit it before removing the fuel rig to try and gain some time.

The track did look a little dull, and I was surprised to see some of the run off areas (especially at the first few corners). Remove those run off zones and you’ll have a fair bit more drama. All in all a good exciting track that provided us with a good bit of drama.

The Singapore GP was brilliant and highly entertaining, as an ardent F1 fan, Valencia was BORING and I actually started nodding off!

Let me say it again the CLOWNS were the FERRARI CREW and the circus was at the FERRARI PIT, it was so AMUSING to see those guys running to the end of the pit lane to retrieve their fuel hose! HA HA HA!

Thank Luca di Montezemolo for providing us with the entertainment. L O S E R.

@Alex: yeah they must have had the time of their lifes watching Massa standing there right next to their pitbox with a fuelhose hanging out of it XD

@the guy who thinks Massa shouldn’t have had a pentaly: I reckon that they gave the penalty because Massa almost rammed Sutil into the PITWALL which is full of technicians… basic traffic law rule is that a parked vehicle has to let traffic on the road pass… why should it be any different on a F1 race? those cars have mirrors.. my advice to Massa, use them next time you pull out of the pitbox…

Also what has poor Sutil done to tick Ferrari so off? Must have been prety bad since they already tried 3-4 times to make him crash, twice in the pitlane, Raikonen hitting him in the back at Monaco, …
Poor guy.. ferrari stop picking on the guy and take someone of your own size :p

the bumpy track issue is a bit dangerous though..as we are all well aware such an incident contributed to the late great ayrton senna’s death. while it is great to watch cars hopping around (and boy was it)..its a risk too much risk for the drivers especially with no braking assistances/traction control/engine braking

that Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo should be fired, this doesnt look bad for F1, it looks bad for Ferrari and last time I looked F1 did not stand for Ferrari 1.

But Ferrari has something against Sutil, first Kimi crashes into the back of him in Monaco when he had driven stunningly, then Massa tries to take him out in that pit lane, and then again in this last race. Ferrari has something against sutil, this is not a coincidence…

But yes, those traffic lights have to go, the lollipop man is much simpler

But why is the video in German?

Can anyone please clarify where this comment from Luca Di Montezemolo comes from? Everyone is bickering on about it and nobody has explained in what context it was originally said!

It really does not sound like it was intended to have anything to do with the infamous Massa pitstop, even Ferrari admitted they had a ‘bad day’. Regarding the track surface: to make F1 more exciting maybe they should do exactly that: make the tracks more bumpy! It brings out the best from drivers and machines. Why do tracks have to be super smooth??? It’s motor racing for **** sake! Not ice skating!

Making tracks more bumpy is not the way to go, it made passing impossible during the Singapore race. Making tracks wet on the other hand may be something to do, artificial rain.

I’m from Singapore and was watching the race. A few of you have complained about the bumpiness of the road, but do you know the truth? That sore loser of a Ferrari boss does.

Singapore’s road is one of the most looked after in the world, to begin with. The circuit used had a major overlay for the race as instructed by the FIA. Do you see any cars flying off the road? The only places are the curbs, and that’s where everyone decided to drive over them, not following the curve.

If you see any of the cars going up and down on the flat stretch, then that would be considered a bumpy road. but do you?

I do agree however, the Singapore circuit needs to find better barriers than those really ugly greys and alu-fences. Gosh certainly made it feel like a circus.

    ATTENTION STOP PRESS !!!!
Ferrari, realising they won’t win (or somehow twist the rules/results/governing body) the drivers championship this year, are already MOANING about the possibilities of having to race with identical engines to the other teams (these measures are to reduce overall costs in the sport for all teams remember).
So they’ve come up with alternatives to save money.
1 All teams who’s cars are not red will have to race with less wheels than Ferrari (this will ensure that the single tyre source from Bridgestone will save enough money,,,,,,, to somehow give an advantage to the red team).
2 All teams who’s cars are not red must have a driver who needs the assistance of a guide dog to drive. The dog will ofcourse have a seperate compartment wich must be towed behind the car and have weights and dimensions equivilent to a small housing estate.
3 Only teams who’s names start with an F and who’s drivers have nil personality or look like something from Lord of The Rings, are aloud to say anything they like or cry like spoilt little brats when they don’t get to win.
