Lewis Hamilton takes the world championship title. I’m going to allow myself a little ‘hell yeeeeeeah!’ in there. But crikey it was tense wasn’t it? I can’t think how it could have been anymore edge of the seat than it was.
Lewis certainly proved he’s learned a thing or two since last season’s finish, and drove a brilliantly mature race. It did look like it might have been a bit too mature right at the end there mind you!
Felipe Massa did an awesome job also, and you’ve got to have the utmost respect for the way he drove and the way he handled himself after the event. I think those two are going to have many more tussles in the years to come.
Anyway, it’s not really about what I think, so I’ll leave it to you guys. And if those of you who were backing Massa could not do any booing like the Brazilian crowd, then that would be good.
And we haven’t even watched the new TG yet! This day can’t really get any better.

Why does everyone think Glock let Hamilton through? Glock was on dry tyres and the track was soaking wet! If he had gone any faster than that he would of ended up in the barrier. Fact! Also, if it wasn’t for the race stewards Hamilton would have won the title in Singapore. He deserved this championship more than any other driver.

Alex, yes I watched the race, also note how hamilton and whitmarsh said completely different things about glock, martin said that they were expecting to catch glock on the last lap and had radioed it to hamilton(of course they were!) and hamilton said he had no idea he was going to.
Even if he was on dry tyres you don’t lose 20 seconds on 1 lap and surely you would defend your position instead of pull to the side.

Martin Whitmarsh (Mclaren Chief Operating Officer) said 3.11.08 :
The teams have GPS maps showing them the exact location of all the cars at all times and Martin Whitmarsh, McLaren’s chief operating officer, said the team’s computer data was telling them Hamilton would catch Glock on the final lap.
“We were obviously telling Lewis throughout that what was happening so he knew he had to keep it together, not panic, not do anything dangerous with Vettel and just to do his job to catch Glock and win the world championship.
“As we went through that last lap, we could see Glock falling back and the predictions were we would catch him, but until we did, we were nervous to say the least”
Lewis Hamilton Said 2.11.08 :
“The team didn’t say anything so I thought I was shot,” said Hamilton, who became Britain’s ninth world champion and the first since Damon Hill in 1996.
“I didn’t know where Glock was and Vettel was the guy to beat and I couldn’t catch him, so at that point I was going to finish sixth. My heart was in my mouth,” said Hamilton.
“When it started to drizzle, I didn’t want to take any risks but at the final corner I got past Glock and I couldn’t believe it.
Sounds like a story being told to cover something uo to me . . . .

So many people know nothing.
Hamilton has had silver lined racing card since the age of about 12 when he had mclaren support.
You would have fathers that really worked hard for their talented sons getting blitzed by hamilton in a mclaren prepared formula ford. So they had no chance against him.
People that comment on here saying he slogged his guts out are so wrong and obviously have not been in the paddocks of the UK racing circuit.
Go to a formula ford or renault meet and see real teams and familys struggling. Not mclaren sponsored media opportunitys.
I saw drivers blitzing lewis hamilton in karts BEFORE mclaren started turning on the money taps.
Seriously, dont bother u lot just keep eating the media rubbish.
Glock obviously slowed and the difference in accounts is of course them trying to explain it.
It is a grate shame for British motorsport.

And you know Boon, Hamilton got the support of McLaren because he’s a great driver. He wouldn’t be able to pull off the stuff he does, even in one of the best cars on the grid, if he was anything less.
I heard that Lewis’s father held down three jobs so Hamilton could have a racing career. Don’t you think he worked hard for his talented son?

hey BOON, i’ll repeat myself just for you…
“Ross and others like him: what’s with all this meritocracy crap? in other words, making an issue about how “hard” a driver worked?
SENNA himself came from a very, very, very RICH family, so he didn’t exactly work in a coal mine to achieve his greatness either! and guess what, it shouldn’t matter!
take a look at other prominent figures in history, and not just racing drivers either. scientists, inventors, artists, musicians, astronauts, you name it…a vast majority of the ones who made great contributions to the world had lives that you would describe as “having everything handed to them on a silver platter.” but that doesnt change what they accomplished. the fact of the matter is that when someone has help in taking care of the “stressful” things in life, thats when true genius, innovation, and sheer greatness emerges because that person’s mind and ability has been allowed to focus solely on reaching a person’s full potential. reaching greatness.
I think it was Fangio who said, “right now, the greatest racing driver in the world is plowing a field somewhere.” meaning many many people have the potential to become greats in motorsports, but the responsibilities of life far too often hold them back.
so i for one am truly greatful that someone like Ron Dennis did help Lewis along, so that we could all enjoy seeing him become what he has. a truly great driver, and WORLD CHAMPION!!!”
LEWIS #1!!!
P.S. one more time about Glock:
Last Lap Times:
Glock: 1min44.7
Trulli: 1min44.8
explain to me how McLaren could have gotten BOTH toyotas to slow down and run lap times within a tenth of a second of each other. you know it’s impossible.

amy, simple math will tell you that if Glock runs a 1:44.7 on the final lap, and Lewis runs around 1:20 then Lewis will gain 24 seconds on him during that lap, passing him in the process.
and on the last corner, what was Glock supposed to do? swerve back and forth across the track, all while trying to get 850hp down to the wet ground with dry tires? remember, they don’t have traction control anymore. on that last corner, an uphill corner, if Glock tried to use anything close to full throttle, he’d be standing still in a burnout.
“Glock-gate” is a non-issue. He was going as fast as he could. Just ask Trulli…
LEWIS #1!!!

So Hamilton has had McLaren support since his karting days? So what? Football teams bring young talent from school, so why shouldn’t F1 be any different? You see talent, you make sure you profit from it. If McLaren hadn’t done it, one of the other teams certainly would have.
Stop being such a bunch of whining losers.

It’s the worst outcome of a season. Schumacher won almost in the middle of the season, of course well deserved, he was way better than most on the track. Alonso is a bit more dignified now, really if not Massa for champion I’d rather see Kubica or Alonso (even Kimi!) win it than Hamilton again. Doesn’t matter now Amy, Glock said he would behave like Hamilton did on the Italian Gp, like if he was all alone on the track, he obviously dislikes Hamilton, can’t see how his mind changed all of a sudden like that. I’m not going to say he was sold out, I have no proof, but I’m not going to say he behaved like someone racing or fighting for positions.
Amy, I’m really trying to forget this season ending, I don’t think I’ll be able to bear the all year “Ham is the champ” cocky attitude, but hey he has less victories, but one point more! Considering the Ferrari mistakes I’m looking foward to next season and hoping Jean Todt and Montezemolo pulls some ears on the meantime.

Lets have an Independent or FIA inquiry examining the onboard data. Its the only way to have this matter resolved once and for all.
Until then we know nothing for sure. All comments made are valid and theres no need to be personal or call anyone an ‘idiot’ or ’stupid’ unless you know something we dont.
Everyone is entitled to their point of view and thee comments are appreciated, until the evidence comes out and we know for certain.
There should be nothing to hide.
Has anyone seen any onboard footgae from Glocks car of the final lap yet?
Has Mclaren made any further comment on the differing accounts of the last lap between martin whitmarsh and Lewis?
Unfortunnatey our trust is in the FIA who should be in possesion of all downloaded data.

Okay.So everyone says Glock slowed to let Lewis(WORLD CHAMPION!!!
) through to win the world championship. Then surely you must be thinking the same of Trulli? He was a tiny bit slower than Glock on that last lap…WHO WAS HE HELPING???
I find it strange, how something that would usually warrant no debating has become a conspiracy…Maybe my grasp of the technical aspect is not that strong, but…Inherently,it shouldn’t work to be on dry tyres in wet conditions.Kind of self-explanatory,that one, what with “wet” and “dry” being opposites.Glock came out and applauded Toyotas strategy that eventually won him a place(sixth instead of seventh),but I’m pretty sure he now wishes he was NOT in that place at that time…
Poor Timo.Drove an absolutely heroic race, kept pace with and pressured Lewis in the early parts, and yet,I’m sorry to say but his reward will probably be that of becoming a target for the F.I.A next season.
So in conclusion,we can probably ask :
Dear F.I.A!Can’t one of the rules for next season be that each team be allowed to run three cars? How sweet with that be.Lewis,Heikki,Timo in McLarens, versus Felipe,Kimi, and Seb in Ferraris…Heikki must stay. Its always good to have a Finn in a McLaren, these Finns aren’t slow,ya know…
1)Does Vettel want to drive for Ferrari someday?YES!
2)Does Glock want to drive for McLaren?Probably wasn’t planning it,but he should. He’s a precocious talent,as this last race proved.Where does that leave Heikki?
And lastly. To those who have a problem with the bias toward Lewis sometimes evident on this forum…Get off.It is a British forum, after all,and both McLaren and Lewis Hamilton happen to be British. You don’t find us slating Ferrari supporters on Italian forums, nor Massa supporters on Brazilian forums. To each their own.And this is ours.If you have something valuable to say, feel free to.If not, rather whine among fellow whiners. You will get no sympathy here,I think.
In closing…Well done to Felipe Massa for proving that he can be championship material.Don’t blame the mechanical failures for robbing him though,it would seem people easily forget him falling off the road all on his own this season (Australia and Malaysia spring to mind).Where it not for his curious inconsistencies at times,I probably wouldn’t be able to say this, but it is,so I am.LEWIS HAMILTON!FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPION 2008!FIRST McLAREN CHAMPIONSHIP IN 9 YEARS!WELL DONE!YES MAN!You’ve done all your, and McLarens’,fans proud. We thank you.
Oh.And call Sebastian Vettel the rainmaster when he wins a wet race by over a minute, like Lewis did in Silverstone this year.Until then…He’s an extremely talented young man with a long and illustrious future ahead of him.The next M.Schumacher?Indeed,if his pushing Heikki Kovalainen off the track on the run down to Lake Descent was anything to go by!Haha.Spotted that one,did you?I did.
Lewis Hamilton will wear the number 1 on his car next year.Or maybe not.But stop crying foul,we McLaren fans are quite used to having our drivers stripped off accolades for no particular reason. We,and much of the world, know who won. These conspiracy theories just waste effort,if there’s something there, the F.I.A must be on it already. We,the little people, don’t matter that much…
Here’s to next season, and an enthralling battle between Lewis, hopefully Heikki,Felipe,Kimi,Fernan do,Sebastian, and Robert. The golden age is upon us,let us revel in it.
I won’t be watching though.Haven’t done so since Spa.I just silently support from the sidelines now, read what I can.Gives one a very different perspective…
Cheers and kind regards to all from a rather climatologically temperamental South Africa
