Lewis gets something to smile about

Just a quickie on practice today in Hungary, as it was all very noses-to-the-grindstone, with everyone calmly getting on with their business. Until Lewis Hamilton banged in a flyer right at the end of the second session.

His teammate Heikki Kovalainen was just behind him, yet the top 16 were all covered on the same second, in the 1:22s.

Which just goes to show what a tough, and tight, job it’s going to be gunning for pole tomorrow.

The big talk is tyres, and how the Brawns of Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello are expected to work better in the hot conditions than the Red Bulls of Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel.

And of the Red Bull drivers, Webber managed his tyres better than Vettel.

Ferrari’s Felipe Massa had a few off-road excursions which hindered his progress throughout the two sessions.

And despite drawing criticism from fellow drivers about his inexperience in F1, 19-year-old rookie Jaime Alguersuari kept his nose clean all day.

Pretty impressive.

I’m thinking it’s going to be Jenson Button on pole tomorrow though (there’s my massive jinxer right there), so let us know what you think.

Although not very secretly I want Lewis to be up there in the hunt. But shhhh, don’t tell anyone…

Felipe Massa has crashed out due to a piece of debris striking him on the head almost knocking him into unconsciousness. The debris is possibly a part of Barrichello’s rear suspension.

Looks like Alonso’s on pole, well that’s what i think, the timing went wrong so nobody knows who’s in what position. It’s turning out to be one of the most eventful Hungary GP’s ever

Surprise, surprise: Alonso made it to P1. Due to all clocks failing in Q3, he didn’t even know it himself.

You beat me to it! Wasn’t it exciting though? I liked Button’s reaction to Alonso’s time, when they tried to find out who had pole…

Purdy, it was Massa who crashed, not Alonso. Alonso got pole position. From replays, certainly looked like a sizeable chunk of suspension hit Massa on the helmut, knocked him about when it struck. That he had full throttle on at the same time as the brakes would indicate he was dazed from being hit. Glad to see he’s ok now.
