Pain in the rain

Jenson Button will have been watching the last part of qualifying for the Brazilian GP from behind his hands, hoping that teammate and title rival Rubens Barrichello wouldn’t get too high up on the grid.

But sadly for Jenson, Rubens played Q3 perfectly and stuck himself on pole in front of his home crowd, a long way up the road from Button, who starts tomorrow’s race in 14th place.

Earlier it had looked to be gong so well for the Brit, when third place championship contender, Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, just couldn’t find the pace in monsoon like conditions, and found himself out of Q1 and down in 16th.

Only it wasn’t to work that well for Button, who didn’t manage to get himself out of Q2, and now has a long way to go to catch Barichello.

Jenson would be in a terrible position for the title if, like previous years, this was the last race of the season, but as it’s not, all is not lost.

Yet if they finish the race tomorrow as they’ll start it, Rubens will have cut his teammate’s championship lead to just four points, and it’ll make the season finale the nail-biter that Bernie Ecclestone is hoping for.

So what do you think? Bear in mind though, that if it rains as much as it did today, then literally anything could happen.

What do you think?

Lets hope that Button can pull something out of the bag… Hopefully he can gain a few places off the start and carry on from there. But it will be interesting to see the championship finished at Yas Marina.

rubens desreves to win the title, plus his car is set-up for the dry conditions so its in his favor

That was the wettest Ove seen F1! Did you see Liuzzi’s crash? Heres hoping it will be the same tomorrow!

@canadakid2

yes, that would be great, with kimi up at the front and hamilton at the back, plus i think kimi could snatch 4th place in the drivers championship from mark webber if he doesnt watch out, only 6.5points in it!

Does anyone know if 2 hours and 41 minutes made it the longest qualifying session in F1? Also, quali was amazing. I still want Trulli to win, though; and that’s not impossible from 4th

GLAD that it will go to the final race (unless rubinho retires out of the race for some reason.).
Hope button doesnt crash out in 14th like he did in belgium and coulthard did last year at THIS VERY CIRCUIT.
Hope jensen gets a point or two to keep up his points-in-every-race-this -season (apart from belgium where SOMEONE ELSE crashed into him).
Also hope jensen doesnt crack under the pressure at abu dhabi.

Yes, Yes, yyyyyyyyyyyes.
You have to fight to get something.
It was looking easy when Vettel went 16th.
And now the fight is on.
Just hope that Rubens will not have any ‘strange’ failures on his car.

Q3: Definitely worth the wait…although with Eddie Jordon getting so much air-time, it was tough going!! :P

Congrats to Rubens!! A sensational pole position!! I would love to see him win in front of his home crowd – he is driving his heart out this year :)

@ andy: Qualifying was delayed due to torrential rain, red flags, and the drivers saying that the circuit was undriveable. The fuel amounts haven’t been published yet so try again tomorrow morning
