Nico’s off

Posted by Jamie Hibbard at 1:06 pm on Thursday October 29, 2009 36 Comments

Ahead of this weekend’s Abu Dhabi GP, Nico Rosberg has announced that it will be his last race with Williams.

Rosberg has spent his whole F1 career with the team, and has said that this weekend will be strange because of it.

It’s widely expected that he will be off to Brawn – a straight swap with Rubens Barrichello is rumoured – or to McLaren as replacement for Heikki Kovalainen.

Mercedes – whose engines power both teams’ cars – want a German driver as they’re a German company, and Rosberg is the strongest prospect (even though his famous father Keke is Finnish, Nico is actually German).

So which team do you think he’s most likely to be in? And how will he fare against either teammate – Jenson Button or Lewis Hamilton?

I heard that Haug said they will be getting a German driver in the McLaren next year. This is bad news for Heikki, but I think there are more possibilities for Lewis’ teammate than just Rosberg.

What about Heidfeld or Sutil, or even Glock?

I would prefer Heidfeld or Sutil in the McLaren than Rosberg, Kimi or Button.

I think Rosberg will smash Button in the Brawn, and will really push Lewis if he was in the McLaren.

Well this wasn’t predicted…. Anyway betting on him being in the Brawn, I imagine him and Button being a strong team, he could seriously push Jenson.

As for McLaren still reckon its going to be Heidfeld, Kimi seems to be looking less and less likely.

Whoever Britney ends up racing as a teammate, he’ll push them more consistently than their previous incumbents.

Against Jenson, I think he’ll have him. Against Lewis, closer to call but my money would be on Lewis.

    Don’t forget a certain Mr.Senna turning up next year, in a yet-to-be-announced seat…

Nico got a german mother, was born in germany and went to school there.

And dont forget Nicos father is the first Finnish F1 world champion!!! and everybody knows that the reason for nico driving in German “colors”is that there is so much more sponsorship money in Germany than in Finland!!!

Button and Lewis must go to Lotus!!!

Wouldn’t that be great, one of the most evocative (and British) names in F1, along with the two best British Drivers (Well errr, the only British drivers really). It’ll be like Fisichella and Ferrari, a match made in heaven. Oh, no, wait.

Dont care at all. Button is the champ and will be forever. Nico is sort of playboy.

Nico is going to Brawn, i think he’ll fit in pretty well there, he’s a good driver.

and btw, little off topic.. but you guys do know that the Lotus team, isn’t Lotus the car manufacturer right?

I think Hamilton will have the upper hand on Rosberg but Rosberg would have the upper hand on Button.

For me Button was not the best driver out there this season, he was just lucky enough to have a car far more superior to all the others for the first half of the season.

The best drivers for me were Hamilton, Raikkonen and Alonso.

Personally i hope Rosberg goes to Brawn and shows us his potential and Raikkonen goes to Mclaren and secures them the constructors with Hamilton.

I also hope that Heikki Kovalainen has a drive for next season. He is a good driver who just couldn’t cope with the expectations to win. At a smaller team he will earn them well needed points as he did for Renault in his first season.

I think discussing the idea of Sutil being taken into the McLaren homestead is pointless, Force India is Mercedes powered so that ticks that box, and whilst Luizzi hasn’t done a bad job- especially considering it’s been a while- Sutil performs strongly when the car is working, especially in low downforce when he seems to have a real edge over most of his age group contemporaries. Remember also at Monaco ‘08- he could have had some points there if it wasn’t for Kimi.

About Bruno Senna- I can’t wait to see him perform but i think he will need to prove himself alot more than the other “famous name” drivers because of the heritage that surrounds Senna Snr.- I expect that the smaller teams would be trying to offer him the best package because he will be able to bring alot of sponsership with him not least TG (Will they include that on the car?)

Lotus- Not strictly connected to Lotus Cars but they are a manufacturer team now thanks to Proton so they have more potential for bigger backing than if they were a “small” independant race team.

QADBAK Investors- If they are on the grid they are going to be seriously limited now on development time. But before that i suspect that the FIA will have lots of questions to ask anyway.

2010 will be an interesting season, whilst there are not the radical technical regulations relating to aerodynamics that we saw this year, the lack of fuel stops and the required development of fuel tank and fuel usage will play massivly into the Hands of those who are lighter on the fuel than other- I am of course thinking about Barcelona this year with Massa and Rob’s requests for him to take it easy on the throttle pedal.

A lot depends on Mercedes buying part of Brawn. If they do, Nico is in. If not, who knows. Do Ross and company want to have Mercedes calling the shots?

If Mercedes buys Brawn GP than Mercedes-Brawn is going to suck balls. Brawn can only succeed when it isn’t tied to corporate interests.

Hope Mercedes will stick to McLaren, loyalty should also be in their image. Heidfeld next to Hamilton would be good. Let them kick cheater Alonso’s ass!!
Don’t consider Rosberg as a German, he is a true Fin.

Please don’t go to McLaren Nico, you will be treated badly and Hamilton’s Dada will not like it that his son gets competition of a talented driver.
I hope that he will go to Brawn, or Toyota for that matter, but please not McLaren, they should sign Heidfeld a much better match and a full German.

As much as I like Nico, I want to see Kimi and Lewis in Mclaren. I dunno……maybe this is coz i started watching F1 when Hakkinen was at his best, and I’ll always picture them with a Finn and a Brit.
But then, Nico’s half Finnish is’nt he???? Damn…….I dont know what I want!

i think nico should go to brawn or toyota where he can atleast have a crack at winning or getting on the posium regularly. he’s young and very talented, with his experience i believe he’s a future champion. i think he can set a car up better than button or hamilton (am not anti-british), so either team-mate would benefit from that. he seems to have driven the wheels off that williams, especially this year, and now deserves a seat in a good car that gives him an opportunity to fight for a win. really looking forward to next year. finaly, i think bruno is gonna be dissappointing.

I agree with Lucas M on that team list

I still fink button does not deserve his world champion title the pressure got 2 him whereas the competition in this season and the one before did not.

But in my opinion nico shouldnt go 2 brawn if button is there because them both are consistant drivers he should be at mclaren and be a consistant driver just like how ferrari have there team set up
