This is just a quick note to say that BBC Sport has put together a brilliant F1 season review entitled The Year in Pictures, which takes a look back over the highs and lows of 2009.
In his foreword, BBC commentator Martin Brundle says: “Formula One’s return to BBC television served up a sensational and thoroughly enjoyable season. ‘Unpredictable’ sums it up, even though Jenson Button won six of the first seven races for Brawn GP.
“The usual politics and skullduggery made the news but could not dampen the magnificent season of motorsport illustrated in this book.”
The 2009 Formula One Season Review: The Year in Pictures is on sale now exclusively at WH Smith, priced at £5.99.

wonder if it will have a “red button” section
Must be hard to get good pictures out of cars as ugly as the 2009 F1 cars, damn they’r ugly!
Complete out of proportion, GP2 looks way better (actually like 2006 F1 cars).
Looks quite interesting, may get it.
For sure?
I agree with comment 2. Cant understand why anyone is taking pictures of the 2009 spec F1 cars. Much less putting together a book about it.
A proper review with words, sentences and the odd quote and statistic here and there: now that would be worth a read. Although, if BBC, ye are doing a proper review, dont have it 99% Jenson Button, 1% everybody else, like some of the build up coverage this year. I love F1 and the BBC coverage (except for RETARD LEGARD who is just abismal, never thought Id say this but bring back James Allen- at least he had some comprehension of the idea that is..LETTING THE MUCH MORE INTELLIGENT MARTIN BRUNDLE TALK!!! Just once Legard, shut up!!!).
Anyway, despite that rant, congrats BBC and looking forward to 2010…here’s hoping ye do the right thing and sack Legard, or just put him on article writing duties or something. FREE BRUNDLE..please, let the man talk.
Great season great anchor man and sidekicks great theme music and great to see no ads. Also great to see Martin Brundle and his gridwalk Thanks BBC.
Hope to f*** they don’t invite Eddie Jordan back. Nothing but bullshit from him all year. I watched every GP yet had to stop watching the build-up.
i think Top Gear presenters should do the job
Am I the only person in the world who likes the 2009 cars more than the 2008 cars?
comment 8 is right!! exept james wont know what is happening since he still thinks its the 1950’s hammond knows absolutley nothing about formula 1, & Clarkson would just set the cars on fire, & order them to crash. after giving them a million more horsepowerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrr…
on second thoughts, Anonymous is right TG does F1 is a fantastic idea.
no, said said said said youre not the only, just one of the only 2 people in the world who likes the ‘09 cars more than the 08′ cars. i think they are much better than the ‘08 ones.
the top gear presenter doing F1 is a brilliant idea! your a funney man J4KEH4M.
umm, thanks!
cant wait for the 2010 season.
2009 cars look good
I would even consider looking at it if the cars didn’t look as vile as they do this year. If it was new safety making the cars ugly then I would reconsier my hatred for their new looks.
Still as F1 still beats any other motorsport, and even every other sport I still watch it religiously.
Amen
It’s great that the BBC are back perhaps we will now see some decent camera work. All we need is the FleetwoodMac intro and a better commentator to keep up with Martin Brundle and all will be right with the world.Bye the way where did Legard come from 5th Gear?
Legard came from Radio 5’s grand prix team! He took over from Simon Taylor eight or nine years ago but went back to football in 2006, allowing David Croft to take his seat before winning the telly spot this year. I find him a million time better than James Allen – famous for only being able to ‘commentate’ on what had happened before the horrid commercial breaks and never on what was going on in front of us.
Whatever one might think of Legard, this has been a golden year for GP on TV and the web – we are all very lucky and should be extremely grateful to the Beeb for doing such a brilliant job – bit like Brawn really!
F1 is about speed not looks.
I watch F1 for the racing, if you want pretty cars go to a museum.
BBC have done a great job, don’t change anything.
@4
PMSL for sure
seem to me thats the only word
f1 drivers use.
For sure.
Yh I’ve watched it and it was cool. I don’t follow F1 as others do but the interest is still tgere and after watching it I now know what happened in the season, although they didn’t show or explain the crash Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button had. I liked it.
Agree that the 2008 cars had a little to much appendages. But the 2009 wings are so out of proportion that it make the cars look laughable with this snowplow front wing and bookcase back wing. Take a look at the cars of 2004-2005-2006, that were proper race cars!
#18 .. recently been at the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart. Very recommendable! Especially the old racecars. Loved the McLarens of Hakkinen and Hamilton. They won’t put the 09 Brawn or McLaren car there for exposure, for sure! It would mess the entire collection!
@18
I watch F1 for the racing, if you want pretty cars go to a museum.
Nowadays, watching F1 for RACING, is like going to McDonalds for a decent meal. If racing means ‘hold position until next series of pitstops, we might end up in front of them’, 2009 must have been a great year for you.
Indeed, the ugly/stupid 2009 aero rules didn’t give any extra overtaking. Guess the FIA is scared to loose face by changing back this stupid decision.
The 2009 cars are the best looking cars in a long while. Last year’s cars ahd all those ugl bits sticking out but the cars are brilliant this year.
sorry to everyone who thinks the old cars are better than the new ones, open your eyes, sorry.

So this is half a book about Button yeah ? BTW said’s pic makes a hammerhead shark look . . . attractive !
Sorry #26 but still looks way better than the front appearance of a 2009 F1 snowplow Lego car.
To my humble opinion the 2006 McLaren MP4-21 was the best ever!
Yeah i think it looks nice, some good pictures in there. I hear there is a BBC Motorcycle one coming out soon too!
2010 here we come in style Will Lewis Win? Will there be a top gear guide to f1 2010?
Has anyone managed to get hold of a copy of this book/magazine yet? I went to Smiths yesterday (November 12th) and they didn’t even seem to know the book existed!
ok, jokes aside, reguards of where it seeks refuge (e.i. arabs, singapore, etc) CVC and FIA can’t run away from the fact that F1 is slowly withering and dieing, the solution is to have more cost effective racing such as touring cars, gt cars and le mans, and lets face it, it does not have the same mainstream appeal as it did back in the 50’s-90’s simply because everyone is more interested in watching 22 inbred chavs kicking a ball about and Mr. Rupert Murdoch can’t hack the fact that he was out-bidded for the rights to F1, so he created the ‘motorsport is boring and i dont car’ banwdwagon
@ J4KEH4M: L.O.L. I think I have an idea to make F1 more exciting.
Do it like a videogame. Let the fastest guys start at the back, sorta like Gran Turismo. But then, the guy in last place after 2 laps is black flagged. This carries on throughout the race. More/less laps = bigger/smaller margin between black flags. Like Burnout, only you don’t blow up and die. And if you are close to, or at the back, you get some kind of boost to get back up there. Like MarioKart. I actually think it is a great idea.
Oh, and to top it all off, tough tracks, like the full, uncensored Nurburgring. Basically, one where either you have to turn while braking, or most the corners are blind. (Preferably, both.) More exciting? You betcha.
2009 f1 apec cars look amazing, they are purposeful and mean looking.
a very cost effective weay to make f1 more exciting would be to bring back turbos, could you imagine the carnage in a wet race?
#34, need some glasses?? and do you remember the sound of the turboos, like vacuum cleaners? nothing did sound better than the 1995 spec v12 ferrari’s, and those cars looked great too! the 09 cars are in your face ugly, clown cars.
has anyone actually been able to find this for sale on the WH Smith website? would love to pick up a copy but cant seem to find it on there
There is a much more important matter that needs to be discussed in F1. There must be more girls in it! Where are the girls?? Top Gear also needs more. Who is that japanese girl in the picture on top?
The cars look cool. There’s a certain madness about them now, they look mean! I think they look like the F1 cars back in the 70’s which is cool. Besides, I don’t care what the cars look like, I want F1 to get over the Schumy era where one driver/team gets to win all the time.
Cars that has the proportion of a hammerhead shark ain´t cool at all but look stupid.
In the 70s it was a result of clever engineers, the 2009 cars are a result of stupid FIA rulemakers with grey hear and a beard who did listen to a ´overtaking group´ who invented those nonsens (wasn´t Pat Symonds, the banned Renault guy one of them?).
#37, buy a playboy magazine
Well, what would you prefer, stupid looking cars that delivered an extremely exciting championship or beautiful cars which resulted in another Button or worse, another Schumacher translating into a boring championship which you wouldn’t bother watching?
#37, yeah man, buy playboy or go for a porn which seems to be what you need>
that cars are really bad and he would rather ride a horse….
Well, horses are certainly more charming than cars. But I think most ppl would still rather see an F1 championship in which there was an actual fight instead of a one horse race.
This year was boring and the cars were damn ugly. Season 08 gave u true fight till the very end with good looking cool race cars. Off course it was nice to see other guys drive for the win but it was the result of a lousy rulebook by the Fia, there was not more overtaking, Kers was a moneyburning farce and the cars are clowncars. Result:half of the teams on the leave, less viewers and less visitors. Only positive was the Abu Dhabi race, what a scene!
If I’m not mistaken on the first half of this year the FIA tried to limit the teams’ budgets. No one agreed. Maybe that could’ve been a bit radical, to say the least, but it might be the ultimate solution as well. Maybe not in the way Bernie wanted, but in some other form. I can’t see another way right now, take the WTCC or the BTCC for instance, I don’t think I’ll ever see more overtaking than that.
eddie jordan did a great job let him settle in, hope to see him next year, the three of them were spot on,plus martin
The FIA should not have ignored the real fans of the sport who watch it to see racing in cool fast screaming race cars. Kers had nothing to do with that, just like wings that are complete out of proportion. The budgetcapshit was a last cry for help to prevent Bmw and Toyota (and probably Renault) from leaving but it was already too late.
And I agree that Eddie Jordan did a great job, just like DC. BBC broadcasted F1 on a very high level, superb! And at least Martin Brundle had the guts to note from time to time that the current cars are very ugly.
Slicks = Good
One Stop Fueling = Bad
No Car Companies in F1 = Bad
F1 2010+ looking boring.
I liked BBC’s broadcast this year, no problem with it at all.
As for F1 next year I don’t think it’ll be bad necessarily. Toyota weren’t very promissing anyway, BMW were coasting and Renault were going the same way. Finally someone agrees with me on the budgetcap thing, but it seems like Ferrari and McLaren don’t. If I’m not mistaken the company teams that left didn’t agree with the capping either, so why did they leave in the first place?
One stop fueling will only be bad if they don’t adapt to it, I can’t see a reason why it won’t work right now. Besides I’m looking forward to watching Massa vs Alonso in the Fezza and also the Senna name back in the business, his nephew has signed in for next year. If at least 3 teams fight for the championship throughout the year it’ll be good enough for me. No more one horse race rubbish.
Has anyone actually bought this book???? I cant find it in WHSmiths
I’m with you GeoGurl would really like to pick this up if anyone has a link it’d be greatly appreciated
