Flavio Briatore has revealed that he might one day come back to F1 – the sport that so publicly ejected him last year ‘as though a criminal’.
Expelled indefinitely from the top flight as punishment for the leading role he played in the salacious ‘Singapore-gate’ race-fixing scandal – and having already relinquished his post at the head of Renault F1 – the flamboyant Italian subsequently proved successful in January in getting his lifetime ban quashed by the Tribunal de Grande Instance in Paris.
Pending a likely appeal from governing body the FIA – whose former president Max Mosley’s ‘desire for personal revenge’ formed the backbone of Briatore’s French High Court case – the 59-year-old is free to return to the grand prix paddock, and his friend and influential F1 commercial rights-holder Bernie Ecclestone has admitted: “I think he could take up a role in the promotion of Formula 1.”
Having similarly stepped down from his role as chairman of football club QPR, Briatore – who has made much in recent years of the need to make F1 more entertaining and accessible to the fans – has now revealed in an interview with Italy’s Sky Sport 24: “I was thrown out as though a criminal. I will never come back to Formula 1 as team manager, but perhaps [I will return] after 2012 in another role.”

Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds may have asked Nelson Piquet JR to crash at Singapore in 2008, but lets face it, he wasn’t exactly the best driver out there, 9 race finishes out of 18 in 2008 (granted that one or two were genuine failures with the car) and only managing to finish in the points a total of 5 times in just over a season-and-a-half.
And besides there are far too many politics surrounding THAT crash in Singapore. An example would be Max Mosley settling scores with ‘Flav’, after all, they have been known to lock horns a time or two in the past. Or another example would be Piquet JR using his father’s influence to get back at Renault after the manufacturer sacked him due to a dismal and unproductive spell with the team.

Nevertheless, I beg your pardon, but I do not give credence to your entire idea, all be it exhilarating none the less. The subsequent time I read a weblog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as much as this one. I imply, I know it was my option to learn, but I truly thought youd have something interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about one thing that you could fix for those who werent too busy looking for attention.
