The latest season of the DTM kicks off this weekend, which gives us a perfect opportunity to don our retrospective goggles and hit the archives.
Before it folded in 1996, the series was originally called the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft before being revived as the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters in 2000. Back then DTM was a racing series where stupidly stiffly-sprung, middle class 90′s motors would drift, spark and jump their way around tracks until the chequered flag was waved. And thanks to the wonderful world wide web, you can relive that era below… with a wonderful German soundtrack to boot.
And if you want to meet the three cars in DTM 2012 from BMW, Mercedes and Audi, head this way. You really should check them out…

The soundtrack is “Verdamp lang hea” – “Verdammt lang her” – “Bloody long time ago” from Bap, a very famous (at least in Germany) band from Cologne. He actually sings Kölsch, a famously difficult to understand dialect of the German language. If you’re not from the region, that is.
Very nice video, btw.
