Just a week after TopGear.com showed you the new Honda Civic Tourer set for the BTCC next year comes this: Honda’s new Civic hatchback WTCC contender.
And doesn’t it look nice? It’s only a render, but points towards the new regulations for the 2014 World Touring Car Championship featuring a wider track – necessitating those wheel arch extensions – larger wheels, a new aero package and a bigger rear spoiler.
It’s more powerful too; next year’s 1.6-litre turbocharged four-pot engines will produce around 380bhp, while the weight of the cars should drop to around 1100kg too.
Honda will enter two works Civic WTCC hatches run by JAS Motorsport, with Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro doing the driving duties, while two more Civics will be entered by privateer teams Zengo Motorsport and Proteam Racing.
“The 2014 Honda WTCC racer is clearly ambitious to retain Honda’s Manufacturers World Championship crown,” says Honda, “and challenge for the driver’s title”. It certainly looks the part, but will come under some rather intense pressure because, don’t forget, a certain Mr Sebastien Loeb will be campaigning in the WTCC next year with Citroen. We hear he’s quite quick.
So which looks cooler? This Civic or the touring car Leon we drove a little while back?
