Rally co-driving: how hard can it be? ‘Left a bit… right a bit… don’t crash into that massive field of excrement by the side of the road…’ We jest. Rally navigation is one of the toughest gigs in motorsport (the toughest, of course, being the poor Top Gear employee responsible for Stig’s daily ‘carcass platter’), […]
We’re approaching the end of both the Formula One and WRC seasons. In both a chap called Seb has already tied up the world championship. But while the Austin GP in the US of A was another dull processional affair, Wales Rally GB was anything but. The route was a belter, featuring some stages not […]
As you read this, some men in North Wales are driving small hatchbacks down dirt tracks as fast as they can possibly go. That’s right, Wales Rally GB is underway. It’s the last round of this year’s World Rally Championship, and in time honoured tradition, it’s already been won by a Frenchman called Seb. However […]
Two names dominated world rallying in 2013: Sébastien Ogier and Volkswagen picked up where Sébastien Loeb and Citroen left off. With one round still to run at the time of writing – in Wales in the UK – Volkswagen are WRC Manufacturers Champions and Ogier the driver’s champion, bringing a nine year — nine year […]
Sebastien Loeb has won nine straight WRC titles – that’s nine in a row – so we can forgive him one minor indiscretion in this, his final rally in the WRC. And when we say minor indiscretion, we of course mean spinning off and landing upside down in a ditch. Not very minor, then.
That’s it. Rallying must wave goodbye to Sebastien Loeb. The Frenchman with the most WRC wins in history (a mere nine in a row) recorded a somewhat ignominious final race against his glittering career – and in his home town, no less – as he watched compatriot Sebastien Ogier take the 2013 driver’s title.
Sebastien Loeb is late. This, if you have followed his remarkable racing career to date, basically never happens. Sebastien Loeb has recorded 78 overall wins, 116 podium finishes, 896 stage wins, 1619 points and a 46.7 per cent win record to make him and his co-driver – Daniel Elena – the most decorated rally partnership […]
Well this a pretty spectacular way to start the week- it’s slow motion footage taken from Sébastien Ogier and co-driver Julien Ingrassia’s efforts in rounds one to ten of the World Rally Championship. And as you can see, he’s pretty handy. Not terribly surprising considering Ogier’s already won the Junior World Rally Championship in 2008, […]
