Here’s an interesting piece of rumour mongering for a Friday afternoon: Jenson Button being looked at for a McLaren drive.

Interestingly, if Bernie Ecclestone’s plan of awarding gold medals to race winners had been in place this season, Jenson Button would have wrapped the Championship up after the Singapore GP the other week.

Like we speculated a few weeks ago, Fernando Alonso’s move to Ferrari in 2010 has well and truly kicked off the silly season, with Robert Kubica now being confirmed to replace the Spaniard at Renault.

It must be getting tricky at Brawn GP’s HQ right now, what with their two drivers being at the sharp end of the World Drivers’ Championship fight, 14 points apart.

Silly season is about to properly kick off this coming weekend at the Japanese GP, where all signs point to Ferrari announcing Fernando Alonso as their driver for next year.

With all the hoo-ha surrounding the Renault Crashgate fiasco, it’s easy to forget that F1 is actually a sport we love, and that every now and then we get to watch some cars racing.

Lewis Hamilton may have made a stunning last minute grab at getting pole position for the Italian GP, but it looks like the two Brawns are best placed to win tomorrow’s race.
