The first ever Abu Dhabi GP didn’t really live up to all of the off-track bluster once the race actually got going, until about two laps to go when Jenson Button got close enough to second place man Mark Webber for a bit of an on-the-edge ding-dong.

What a great result for British sport at Interlagos on Sunday. Don’t forget that Brawn, which was Honda last year and almost disappeared altogether over Christmas, is a British-owned team, staffed by British people almost exclusively.

It’s been 15 years since Lotus last competed in F1, but as of 2010, they’re back. Lotus F1 will occupy the 13th spot on the grid next season, backed by a group of Malaysian entrepreneurs.

Mercedes-Benz is set to buy a chunk of championship leaders Brawn GP, according to F1’s rumour mill. The German manufacturer already has a long-standing stake in McLaren, and supplies engines to Force India, but it’s apparently keen to tie up something more substantial with the Brackley-based team.

Jenson Button will look at today and think that it could have been a lot worse. Taken out by Renault rookie Romain Grosjean on the first lap, Jenson could then only watch on from the pit wall, with his fingers crossed.

We expected the Brawns not to be the quickest in Spa this weekend, but we certainly didn’t expect Button to not even make it into Q3 for qualifying at the Belgian GP.
